ABOUT US
Wellington Project Prom began in April 1987 as the product of a few Wellington High School students who wanted to create a safe environment for celebrating their prom night. With overwhelming community and parental support, their efforts paid off and a new tradition was born.
Since then, parents of the students took over the task of putting on the "after prom". This includes the year round fundraising, theme development, decorating, collection and awarding of prizes, games and aciviites, t-shirts and commemoratives, and food galore.
Some ask why we go to such lengths to host an extravagant all-nighter. The answer is simple: It saves lives!
Many young people interpret the use of alcohol and drugs as the way to have a party, and prom night is no exception to this belief. Substance-free parties, such as Project Prom, can help young people refocus on the enjoyment of fun and interaction with their peers without the use of mind-altering substances. Young people in Wellington have grown to look forward to this annual drug and alcohol free event, and we’d like to see it continue for years to come.
Saving one child, one family, in our community from a drug or alcohol related tragedy is an incredible accomplishment, but we need your help to see it through. Whether you are the parent of a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior, please support us in helping these young people see that it is possible to have fun without the use of drugs or alcohol.
